Tsushima-maru Memorial Museum is a place where exhibits and storage the documents of the Incident of Tsushima-maru sinking occured in Wakasa, Naha-city August 22nd 1994. The museum opened to tell this tragic incident and the importance of peace to next generation on August 22nd 2004 after the 60 years of the war end.
The family of victims demand for Tsushima-maru investigation in 1997 and was discovered on December 12th. However, It's hard to conduct the refloatation operations, They conducted the memorial service for the victims and built Tsushima-maru Memorial Museum as an alternate proposal.

What is the Incident of Tsushima-maru sinking?
The Incident of Tsushima-maru sinking was a tragic incident occured during the WWⅡ for evacuate the school children from Okinawa to mainland Japan and got attaced from American army submarine. At the exhibition hall on the 2nd floor, details of from boarding to sinking details and sailing charts of American army are exhibited. You can learn about how Tsuhima-maru went through the process.

The monument and portrait of the deceased victims
At the 1st floor, the monument and portrait of the deceased victims are exhibited. However, people were gagged about the incident then, Few investigation was conducted. As a result of that, there are a few memento and documents compared to the number of the visctims. Some victims still haven't been found.

At the 1st floor, valuable documents and audio-visual about battle of Okinawa is alos exhibited including the Incident of Tsushima-maru sinking. Moreover, at the museum, survivor and bereaved family told story about Tsuhima-maru incident regularly.
How to enjoy Tsushima-maru Memorial Museum

At the Tsushima-maru Memorial Museum, the exhibitions are provided at the 1st and 2nd floor. The entrance is at the 2nd floor, you can enter by going up the steps at in front of the museum entrance. Wheelchairs are provided at the museum, please feel free to ask one of the staff by pressing the interphone at the 1st floor.
For entering the museum, you need to buy a ticket at the reception desk. The admission fees are Adult:500yen, Junior and high school student:300yen, Elementry school students:100yen. You can get 50yen discount by showing the monorail ticket. The brochures are available at the reception desk for free.
There are Japanese/English/Chinese/Korean brochures available. When we went there for reporting, there are visitors from over seas asking some questions to a staff. You can observe the exhibitions by following the suggested route signs.
After the reception desk, the information panel, sea lane chart of Tsushima-maru and left behinded school bags are exhibited.
Ship model of Tsushima-maru and one thousand paper crane wchich was donated from school are also exhibited at the museum. There is a big screen showing the audio-image of Tsuhima-maru incident. On the way to the 1st floor going down the steps, the picture of Tsushima-maru and a doll of a surviver hold on to the raft are exhibited.
The Tsushima-maru inside is depicted. The wooden bunk bed is exhibited and you can learn what kind of place they were sleeping.
The class room is also truly depicted at the 1st floor. The text books, certificates, school report card and magazine are exhibited.
Besides that, you can also see the living of survived students life.
At the back of the class room, the monument and portrait of the deceased victims is desplayed. (It is prohibited to take a picture of monument and portrait of the deceased victims.)
Asahigaoka park (Kozakura tower)is at the back of the Tsushima-maru Memorial Museum. Several memorial monument were built including the donation from Suzushiro kodomo meeting Aichi prefecture.
Please stop by at the park as well when you visit the Tsushima-maru Memorial Museum.
